Body Size Language in Healthcare Guide by Dr. Grey, Dr. Parker & Tracey Carr

Language we use in healthcare to categorise people’s body size, associated treatment and necessary equipment is fraught with the potential for stigma and discrimination. This information sheet summarises commonly utilised terms and briefly discusses their application in practice. It was compiled and shared with permission from eminent researchers and lived experience advocates Dr Lesley Grey, Dr George Parker and Tracey Carr.
