At Laneways, we provide compassionate, non-judgemental care for every body. If you’re experiencing swelling, heaviness, pain, or reduced function, we’re here to help. We offer clinical lymphatic drainage techniques to assist with lymphatic fluid movement.
Nadia is an accredited lymphoedema therapist and a member of the Australasian Lymphology Association.
She works across both Laneways and a large public health lymphoedema service in Melbourne, supporting people with a wide range of presentations and complexity.
This dual experience means your care is informed by both specialised outpatient treatment and higher-level clinical management, so you can feel confident you’re receiving evidence-based, up-to-date care.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a clinical lymphatic massage technique designed to physically facilitate the movement of fluid within the body. Rather than a standard remedial massage, MLD is a targeted manual therapy used to move lymphatic fluid away from overloaded or congested areas, assisting in the reduction of limb volume and the improvement of patient comfort.
At our clinic, we provide MLD as a core component of management for:
We integrate MLD into an accredited management plan, ensuring your treatment is supported by evidence-based skin care, exercise, and compression therapy.

No, MLD should never be painful. While there is a common myth that MLD is merely
“butterfly kisses” or feather-light stroking, true clinical MLD is a deliberate, highly effective technique. It uses light, rhythmic skin-stretching movements to stretch and activate the lymphatic vessels.
Unlike deep tissue massage, deep pressure isn’t needed—and can actually compress the fine lymphatic channels—so most people find the treatment deeply relaxing. At Laneways, we take a modern, clinical approach: we focus on delivering real treatment outcomes and fluid movement while keeping your session completely pain-free.
Treatment frequency is fully tailored to your individual goals, symptoms, and phase of recovery or management. During an active treatment phase or post-surgery, sessions are often scheduled weekly or fortnightly.
As your condition stabilises, our focus shifts toward supporting your independence. We empower you with self-management techniques—such as simple self-drainage routines at home or the use of an intermittent pneumatic compression pump—backed by periodic clinical check-ins or maintenance MLD sessions whenever you need them.
Yes, absolutely. We all have lymphatic fluid constantly moving through our bodies, and MLD can be highly beneficial for post-operative recovery, localised swelling, tissue inflammation, or simply supporting fluid movement and overall comfort.
A wide range of chronic and invisible conditions—such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, dysautonomia, and chronic pain—can also respond wonderfully to MLD by easing system overload and promoting deep relaxation. To ensure your care is tailored, safe, and effective, we always conduct a thorough clinical assessment before beginning treatment.
